Elten Powers elected County Chair

On Saturday, August 19, the Steuben County Democrats held an election to replace outgoing chair, Erika Celeste. In a unanimous (and uncontested) vote, the assembled precinct chairs and vice chairs elected Elten Powers of Pleasant Lake to fill the position.

In his acceptance speech, Powers stressed the need for strong organization and on-the-ground effort: “Obviously we are the minority party here so we have to work harder and be well organized,” he said. He also encouraged the assembled precinct chairs to remain involved, recruiting candidates and getting out the vote in their areas.

Powers felt, as do many of us, that November’s election and its aftermath has created a groundswell of interest in political activism. He hopes to spearhead outreach efforts to Democratic voters who want to get more involved in local politics.

We welcome Powers’ leadership and encourage anyone who would like to help with our 2018 candidate recruitment drive to please contact us at steubendems@gmail.com. You can also join us at the Steuben County Community Foundation on Wednesday, September 20th at 6:30 pm for our next Party meeting.
